2. SetupCast manages multiple SetupBuilder distribution sets

SetupBuilder lets you create different types of installers for your software.  It is not unusual to have a Full Installer, a Web Installation and a Web Update for the same software product.

This means that you normally have to load, compile and publish each different installer type in SetupBuilder to complete your software distribution.

You also have to manually manage the task of organizing your files on your web server and keeping up with what files belong to which distribution sets.

SetupCast lets you manage content generation and publishing for all of the related types of installers for your software in a single SetupCast project.

3. SetupCast combines publishing of multiple distribution sets

At the click of a single button, SetupCast can verify the generated content and distribution files for for all of the related installer types and upload them to your website.

The Precision Publishing feature of SetupCast also makes it easy to republish selected portions of your content or the distribution files without requiring a full upload of the entire project.

This is very convenient when you need to make a minor change to the generated content and don’t want to upload large distribution files again or change the version number.

5. SetupCast includes a Enhanced Web Update Client

SetupCast takes the Web Update feature of SetupBuilder to a whole new level.

When your project is SetupBuilder related and includes a Web Update installer, SetupCast generates an extra content file and uploads it to the same directory where your Web Update files are published.

Then in your SetupBuilder project you simply specify that it includes the Enhanced Web Update Client included with SetupCast instead of the regular one that ships with SetupBuilder.

When your user checks for updates and a new version of your software is available, instead of seeing the Standard Web Update Client like this:

The Standard SetupBuider Web Update Client

They see the content generated by SetupCast displayed in the Enhanced Web
Update Client like this:

The SetupCast Enhanced Web Update Client for SetupBuilder

Note: As shown here the Enhanced Web Update Client can actually modify the content generated by SetupCast “on-the-fly” based on information from the client computer.

The Enhanced Web Update Client makes it possible for your clients to see how big the update will be BEFORE they download it.  It also gives you a chance to provide them with release notes or reminders that are visible to them BEFORE they install the update.

Note: Since SetupCast provides for both shared release notes and/or individual release notes based on installer type, you can have a totally different set of release notes for your Web Update if desired.

Automatic Fallback Mode

If the Enhanced Web Update Client is unable to download the content generated by SetupCast, then the Standard Web Update Client screen is displayed if a new version is available.

Customizing the content

Creating your own variation of the content displayed in the Enhanced Web Update Client is as easy as editing the SetupCast RTF template in Wordpad.  You can also create your own RTF file with the embedded tokens and tell SetupCast to use it instead of the default one.  This can even be done on a project-by-project basis.

Customizing the content is easy!

Note: Both a compiled and Code Signed version of the SetupBuilder script for the Enhanced Web Update Client are included with SetupCast.  This means that it is ready to use or you can further modify it if needed.

Conclusion

Using SetupCast with SetupBuilder is a dynamic combination that both you and your customers will love.

The Enhanced Web Update Client will make your installers more professional and provide a richer interactive environment for your customers during the update process.

The SetupBuilder Automation in SetupCast makes managing and publishing multiple distribution sets for the same software absolutely easy!
